The International Institute of New England a nongovernmental, not-for-profit, New England-based organization dedicated to addressing the needs and rights of refugees and immigrants, is seeking a Case Specialist—Community Servicesfor its Lowell office.

Note: Certain position requires great flexibility and willingness to travel. A valid driver's license, insurance, a clean driving record, and personal transportation may be required.

Available Position: Case Specialist, Community Services
Reports to: Community Services Coordinator
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Overview:
The Community Services Case Specialist provides social services and assistance to refugee and asylee clients and their families. The objective of the program is to assist refugee and asylee clients in removing barriers to basic needs in order to promote self-efficacy and economic self-sufficiency. Primary responsibilities include:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive and extended case management services to post-resettlement Institute refugee and asylee clients including case planning, home visiting, program enrollment, advocacy, and coordinate core services appointments. Coordinate client services to accomplish goals of individual and family self-sufficiency.
  • Provide referrals to relevant health, social, housing, educational, and other community services.
  • Work to identify at-risk clients and help develop and implement appropriate client service plans.
  • Keep professional and accurate documentation using centralized database, including assessments, client service plans, and case notes.
  • Coordinate closely with other Institute programs and services.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community service providers.
  • Triage legal issues for asylee clients as they arise.
  • Attend trainings and contractual meetings as needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings and weekly Client Disposition meeting.
  • Provide backup support to Resettlement team.
  • Provide ongoing supervision and support of interns and volunteers, including daily assignment of tasks and review of completed activities.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor. 

Qualifications:

  • BA in social services field (MSW or BSW degree preferred);
  • A minimum of two years' experience in case management, preferably working with, serving, and advocating on behalf of immigrants and refugees;
  • Prior experience with social service provision;
  • Must possess an extensive knowledge of immigrant community local resources;
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; and
  • Ability to prioritize duties in a fast-paced environment.
  • Multi-lingual candidates encouraged to apply, especially individuals who speak Arabic, French, or Swahili.

Physical Demands:

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity;
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands;
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
