The International Institute of New England, a nongovernmental, not-for-profit, New England-based organization dedicated to addressing the needs and rights of refugees and immigrants, is seeking a Volunteer Manager for its Lowell office.

Status: Exempt

Overview:
The Volunteer Manager is responsible for all aspects of coordination and supervision of the Lowell site volunteer program.  Responsibilities include creating and managing to an annual volunteer plan, recruiting and supervising interns and volunteers, providing direction, coordination, and consultation for all volunteer functions, and actively working to connect area communities to IINE. The purpose of the volunteer program is to strengthen programming and involve a community of supporters in the transformative work of the International Institute.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (International Relations, Business Administration, Non-Profit Management, etc.) 
  • At least one year of volunteer management experience
  • Enthusiasm for IINE’s mission and working on behalf of immigrants and refugees
  • Demonstrated capability to effectively communicate orally and in writing (writing sample required)
  • Ability to effectively manage a wide array of tasks, projects, and responsibilities
  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers
  • Ability to work respectfully in a multicultural environment
  • Willingness to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and manage to a volunteer plan, update annually. 
  • Help develop, promote, and maintain, recruit, and supervise a wide range of volunteer and internship opportunities within the site.

Volunteers:

  • Survey staff regularly to assess needs for volunteer assistance
  • Maintain Volunteer Service Descriptions for each volunteer assignment
  • Meet annual volunteer service and engagement targets
  • Ensure volunteers are staffed to support the various areas of operations, including programming and special events
  • Recommend the most efficient use of volunteers, appropriate volunteer/supervisory mix, and future workforce needs to support volunteer program operations
  • Conduct and/or arrange for volunteer orientation and training
  • Evaluate all aspects of volunteer programs to ensure effectiveness and recommend/implement changes as appropriate
  • Maintain accurate records and provide timely statistical and activity reports on volunteer participation
  • Recruit, interview, train, place and supervise applicants for volunteer work
  • Host and attend recruiting events within the community to attract qualified candidates
  • Work with Marketing and Public Relations to publicize opportunities for volunteers
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other volunteer organizations within the area
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance for volunteers

Interns:

  • Work with site managers to organize, develop, recruit for, and onboard interns throughout the program calendar year
  • Manage Commonwealth Corps program and supervise Commonwealth Corps members 

General:

  • Develop and manage volunteer and intern policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service
  • Organize and participate in volunteer and intern recognition programs and special events
  • Contribute to monthly Insider a section entitled, “Volunteer View”
  • Identify community outreach opportunities such as fairs, festivals, local markets and organizations
  • Act as a single point of contact for volunteer and intern communications
  • Confer with volunteers to resolve grievances and promote cooperation and interest
  • Conduct site tours as needed or requested
  • Represent IINE, participate and present at community forums, trainings, and other events
