Thousands of immigrants from Haiti and Central and South America are arriving in Massachusetts after escaping violence, famine, and chaos in their home countries. They are desperate for shelter, safety, and a new start, but the state’s overburdened emergency shelter system cannot keep up with the demand. Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has declared a State of Emergency in response to this humanitarian crisis.
