“We are a nation of immigrants”: IINE Donors Share Why They Give
In 2026, when the federal government introduced one restrictive immigration policy after another, IINE’s community members stepped up and spoke out. Below, IINE volunteers, Board members, and supporters share what compelled them to give this year.

I believe, as a society, we need to protect and encourage those who are “less fortunate.” We all go through difficult times, and without the empathy and support of others, we can easily become lost. I have found that many people just need a little boost...
The U.S. is made better by blending nationalities, customs, opinions, lifestyles, and ideas. We are better when we come together as a society, learning from each other and sharing each other’s good times and bad times.

We are a nation of immigrants. The majority of people that come to our country do so in search of a better future and with the goals of integration, respect, and contribution. While Turkey is my motherland, I also feel at home in the U.S., and that has to do with how welcoming people are here. I was so impressed by how interested people were in me and where I came from when I first arrived in the U.S. There’s an openness to the world that is in the DNA of this country.

Yesim Richardson, Board Member

Every time I take her to a medical appointment or to the hospital, we are received and cared for by medical professionals from every corner of the earth. I shudder to think who would care for the health needs of the elders in our society without these dedicated immigrants.
