Information on Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
On June 25, 2026, the Supreme Court issued a ruling allowing the presidential administration to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for hundreds of thousands of Haitians and Syrians in the U.S.
This news is devastating and disastrous. There are over 300,000 Haitian TPS holders in the U.S., including more than 20,000 in Massachusetts. These individuals have become integral to our communities and workforce. They are business owners, nursing assistants and caregivers, agricultural workers, and construction workers. They are our colleagues, neighbors, and friends.
In response to the real fear and uncertainty many Haitian families now face, IINE has launched a TPS Support Initiative to provide compassionate, trauma-informed support. Our staff are currently reaching out to impacted Haitian families in our care to provide:
- Legal consultations to offer guidance and assess potential forms of legal relief
- Family preparedness planning, so there is a plan in place should a parent be detained and separated from their child(ren) due to an expired legal status
- Intensive case management and employment support
- Connections to essential resources, including food and housing
TPS holders impacted by the June Supreme Court decision may also be eligible for legal support through the ORI Helpdesk. Please visit their website for more information.
IINE’s Immigration Legal Services Department provides legal representation in affirmative immigration matters. We are seeking referral partners who can offer legal representation to individuals in detention and removal proceedings. If you are a private attorney willing to accept these cases on a low-fee or pro-bono basis, please reach out to IINE Director of Immigration Legal Services Rebecca LaPierre at rlapierre@iine.org to be considered for our referral list. Thank you.
