BOSTON November 14, 2022 – The International Institute of New England (IINE) announces Maggie Burns as its new vice president of principal and major gifts.

A leader and mentor in the field of nonprofit fundraising, Maggie will manage a portfolio of IINE’s principal donors and prospects and ensure donors are closely stewarded and presented with opportunities to deepen their relationships with and increase their support of IINE.

“As a consultant, Maggie has already been an incredible mentor to me in structuring IINE’s fundraising program for greater success,” said Xan Weber, senior vice president and chief advancement officer. “I am thrilled she is joining our team. She is one of the most committed people I know, and her passion for refugees and immigrants shines through.”

Prior to joining IINE, Maggie was the vice president of philanthropy and external affairs at St. Francis House. Maggie provided strategy, leadership, and direction for all agency fundraising while overseeing marketing, communications, and external affairs. First joining St. Francis House in 2012, Maggie was a member of the St. Francis House executive team and played a key role in developing and implementing organizational strategy. Maggie successfully launched a $60 million comprehensive campaign for St. Francis House to enhance and expand programming, build a social business enterprise, and renovate two main properties in the SFH campus.

Before joining St. Francis House, Maggie was Senior Director of Development at the United Way of Mass Bay and Merrimack Valley, where she managed individual giving among several industries and launched the nationally acclaimed Women’s and Emerging Leaders affinity programs.

Throughout her career, Maggie has been instrumental in organizational and departmental strategic planning. Drawing from extensive leadership experience, Maggie understands the complexities of growing small to mid-size organizations. In addition to her work at St. Francis House, Maggie is a Founding member of The Roundtable – a group of Development and Advancement leaders – a mentor for the Institute of Non-Profit Practice, and a member of the Development Committee at Ursuline Academy in Dedham, MA.

Over the past year, IINE has greatly expanded programming in Boston, Lowell, MA, and Manchester, NH to meet the demand for life-saving resettlement services, language training, and career and legal support following multiple humanitarian crises around the world that landed thousands of new individuals and families in New England. In 2022, IINE resettled 1,503 displaced persons- mostly from Afghanistan, Haiti, and Ukraine – almost 2,000% more than we welcomed in 2020.  Maggie’s expertise will help IINE build upon this growth and raise the resources for even greater impact.
