Kristan Fitah
Associate Director, ESOL Program

Kristan has always connected teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages with social justice. After studying psychology and elementary education as an undergraduate, she served in AmeriCorps in Lowell, Massachusetts, teaching English to former refugees from Southeast Asia. This sparked a deep interest in helping adult immigrants. She went on to get a master’s degree in teaching ESOL and applied linguistics and then taught English in Morocco before returning to Boston to teach ESOL and manage adult education programs, job training programs, and workplace education for more than 15 years.

Kristan loves working with teachers, staff, and learners to make meaningful changes in students’ lives. She finds it deeply gratifying to see them improve their English, and then go on to college or job training programs. She loves hearing from former students who have bought their first house, brought family members from their home countries, or obtained their first professional job in the United States.

Kristan enjoys spending time with family, swimming, listening to music, and watching documentaries.
