Unaccompanied Children’s Program Director

Leah Jacobs Varo, MSW

Leah is a career-long advocate for child welfare with a master’s degree in social work and a passionate interest in healthcare and immigration policy. Her perspective was shaped by her five years living abroad, teaching English, and traveling widely. 

Leah has worked in child welfare for more than 15 years and has been working in the Unaccompanied Children’s Program since 2018, first as an IINE Family Support Specialist, and then as a Regional Supervisor for the program through the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI), IINE’s national partner agency.  

Leah is the mother of two young children who keep her very busy. When she does have free time, she loves to travel and see new places. She also enjoys running and hiking and tries to spend time outside whenever she can.
