CLIENT STORY – Gateways Community Services

Ensuring All Clients Can Grow Towards Independence

Located in Nashua, New Hampshire, Gateways Community Services (Gateways) was founded in 1981 to provide services that promote growth and independence for individuals with developmental disabilities. 

Since then, the organization has expanded to support 3,000 community members annually, including individuals with acquired brain disorders and autism, as well as older adults and veterans. At the core of its innovative, dynamic programming is the belief that all people are of great value and deserve to lead meaningful lives. 

Gateways has been a valued partner of the International Institute of New England for years, having trained and hired many of our refugee and immigrant clients into direct service professional roles. In 2025, that partnership grew when Gateways contacted IINE Language Services to provide interpretation support. Since then, IINE has provided video, over-the-phone, and in-person interpretation in a range of languages—including Spanish, Portuguese, Kinyarwanda, Bosnian, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and American Sign Language—facilitating clear communication between therapists and patients, as well as between therapists and the families of children receiving services. 

Given the sensitive nature of these conversations, our team’s dedication to professionalism, cultural responsiveness, and confidential services has been especially critical. It has strengthened the ability of Gateways staff to build trust with the clients and families they support. 

Through its partnership with IINE Language Services, Gateways will continue to ensure every individual who comes to their doors can fully express their needs—and clearly understand the support they receive in return.
